Stephen Phillips - Principal Research Associate
Stephen is a wildlife ecologist and former university lecturer with nearly 40 years of experience in all facets of natural area management ranging from the investigation and planning of new conservation areas to habitat/population modelling and the design of specialised survey programs for threatened plants and animals. Amongst many things, Steve is an acknowledged authority on the ecology, conservation and management of koalas; he has spoken at national and international conferences and written popular articles, book chapters and scientific papers, the latter published in various conference proceedings and journals Forest Ecology and Management, Australian Mammalogy, Biological Conservation, Australian Journal of Botany, Environmental Management & Restoration, Ecological Management & Restoration, Australian Journal of Zoology, Conservation Genetics, Wildlife Research and Conservation Biology.
Stephen established Biolink Ecological Consultants in the late 1990s. In 2019 he decided to step back a bit and dedicate more time to writing about koalas and other things, and to ideally spend a bit more time smelling roses (native ones of course). To this end, he handed Biolink over to his staff, and now works with them in a advisory/collaborative capacity, while maintaining his own research / consultancy interests in the realm of koala conservation biology, planning, survey design and specialised threatened species management.
