The successful long-term conservation of the koala population inhabiting the Burleigh Ridge to the east of the Pacific Highway is an important aspect of City of Gold Coast Council’s long-term koala management plans. Biolink undertook a Population Viability Analysis (PVA) of this population, modelling baseline data derived from details field surveys, as well as modelling different scenarios to examine the populations theoretical response to change. From this process we identified those factors which are required to be taken into account to ensure long-term survival of this iconic population.
