Campbelltown City Council koala Population Assessment 2025

The Campbelltown koala population has shown signs of recovery over the past three decades, making its ongoing conservation a priority for the local community, scientists and land managers. This project reported on two rounds of intra-generational koala surveys conducted across the Campbelltown Local Government Area, building on a baseline assessment completed in 2020. Monitoring was undertaken at 63 permanent sites spanning Council-managed and freehold lands, Department of Defence lands, National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) estate, and other State-managed areas. Field survey results were integrated with analysis of historical and contemporary koala records to assess changes in distribution and activity across the LGA. The findings provide an evidence base to guide conservation management actions in alignment with the Campbelltown Comprehensive Koala Plan of Management.
