Black-breasted Button-quail Monitoring

Biolink was engaged by Ipswich City Council to produce a conservation tool for systematically assessing Black Breasted Button Quail presence across Council’s network of Reserves. We became absorbed in the task of developing a field method for objectively assessing Black Breasted Button Quail presence, as well tools for identifying suitable habitat and determining associations with disturbance history and threats, to prioritise areas for conservation works. Initial examination of Black Breasted Button Quail records across the Ipswich Local Government Area confirmed that most available sightings records are contemporaneous (having been collected in the past 10 – 12 years), lending them to analysis based on an intersection with underlying vegetation (Regional Ecosystem) mapping, and grid-based approaches.
