Post-fire koala surveys

Funded by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (Australia), we have completed an assessment of the impact on koalas of the 2019 / 20 fire season. This was made possible by earlier project work which provided us with a large array of contemporaneous (i.e. current koala generation) pre-fire survey data. To undertake this work we quantified changes that have occurred by reassessing koala presence / absence at more than 120 field sites from 6 separate fire grounds distributed between Forster on the NSW mid-north coast and Wardell – Casino on the far north coast. Our report describing the project has been published in the form of a peer-reviewed scientific publication and has been cited by numerous other scientific papers and media outlets.
